  • This is a place where we are all alone together in diminished circumstances where we refuse to embrace our own humanity living atop a planet that is the paragon of isolation..from other presumably living worlds..a distinction underscored by our difference from other species..the search for other species that are a mirror image of us is like the quest for the confirmation of heaven..a verifiable justification that we are not rudderless..or without purpose. We seem to need these mirages more than they need us in Ufological terms. What aliens and spaceships represent is a sort of metaphor of heaven..that we wish to make concrete ..to make an apple an orange. Thats my take on mirages on a dead planet.

  • The photos certainly make you wonder. The conspiracists are at it again, are they?

Surely the best answer to such people is that Percival Lowell discovered intellifent life on Mars over a hundred years ago when he noticed all those canals, with pipes of water running through them.

And of course the numerous 'discoveries' of Martian life since then. Think of that meteorite announcement in, was it, 1996?

  • All this Mars ruminating makes me think of the brilliantly written & filmed 'Quartermass and the Pit'.

  • Maybe a deeply embedded disturbing, gnawing memory in our species of a very ancient 'home'.
