Bruce Duensing has discovered and provided a report from Russia's Pravda which is more than interesting.

For what it's worth, in a separate, private discussion group, a well known reporter/commentator on matters like this avers that General Savin told the reporter this exact same story in person, approximately 20 years ago.

Doesn't prove the content of the story is true, merely that it hasn't changed in that time.

This might be more impressive if Pravda hadn't turned itself into a Russian language Weekly World News after the old Soviet Union went belly up. Over the past 15 or so years, there's been some pretty weird shit posted online that came from Pravda. I think in the post-Soviet era it found that it actually had to make money to survive so it became a tabloid. But anyway, it sure is a lot more fun these days.
